I wanted to take a moment to give a big shout out to the police department in Broomfield Colorado. I went into the hospital on April 19, 2021, and left my house vacant for almost 2 months. During my stay in the hospital the electric company shut off my power for nonpayment. My house was dark and empty, and I had a fear that it was a good target for vandalism or burglary.
From my hospital bed I made a call to the Broomfield Police Department nonemergency number. I spoke to the dispatcher online and asked about having squads go past my house occasionally, just to check that it was okay. The dispatcher told me that normally they do not do things like this, but I implored her to see if it was possible to have a few cruisers pass by occasionally. She said she would check, and we ended the phone call.
A few minutes later I received a phone call from a police officer. He said to me, “Mr. Schmidt, don’t worry about your house, we will be by to check on it as long as you’re in the hospital.” I thanked him profusely and started to cry as I hung up the phone. I never got the name of the officer who called, but all of my interactions with Broomfield PD have been great!
When I got home in early June 2021 my house was fine and nothing had happened.
Thank you, Broomfield PD! You folks are the best!
